Exploring the massive halls of Hogwarts Legacy often leads to discovering hidden secrets scattered across the wizarding school. One early side mission that many players encounter is the Cache in the Castle quest, which tasks you with tracking down a series of landmarks using a cryptic treasure map. Completing this objective successfully rewards you with a unique cosmetic appearance to show off your historical wizarding knowledge.
Starting the Quest in the Astronomy Wing
To begin this treasure hunt, you must head over to the Astronomy Wing and look for a fellow classmate named Arthur Plummly. Speaking with Arthur will trigger the quest dialogue and grant you his hand-drawn treasure map featuring three distinct illustrations. This initial interaction establishes your starting point right next to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom floo flame.
Before venturing deeper into the castle corridors, you should take a close look at the parchment icons to plan your route. The landmarks are located relatively close to each other, so navigating the massive layout will not take too much of your time. Finding the first point of interest requires you to head down the nearby staircase to look for a massive skeletal display.
Tracking the Three Castle Landmarks
The first landmark shown on Arthur's map is a massive rhinoceros skeleton located just a few floors below your starting location. Simply walk down the stairs from the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom until you spot the large bones enclosed in glass. Walking close to this location will instantly prompt your character to comment on the discovery and update your quest tracker.
Next, you will need to head outside into the Transfiguration Courtyard to locate the second clue on the parchment. Look for the large fountain situated in the center of the yard, which features a prominent wyvern statue perched right on top. Approaching this courtyard fountain will unlock the final stage of the treasure hunt, pointing you toward a set of large double doors nearby.
Solving the Moving Painting Puzzle
Enter the doors past the fountain and follow the stairwells upward until you locate a unique painting depicting a snow-covered house. This specific canvas hides the secret vault, but you must trigger the mechanism using the appropriate magic spell. Cast Accio on the prominent coat hanger fixture located at the very top of the wooden frame.
Pulling the handle activates a mechanical sequence that opens up a hidden doorway directly behind the canvas sheet. Inside this tiny alcove sits the long-awaited treasure chest containing the Authentic Historians Uniform appearance item. Collecting this fashionable gear completes the map puzzle, allowing you to return to Arthur Plummly to finalize the mission rewards.
